Clay's Flooring & Interiors has been in business over 60 years. How was the company founded and can you speak to your growth over the last several decades? 

Max Clay started the business in his basement and moved downtown Rochester when he started to grow larger. He was very successful and sold the business to Kim and Pam Clay a little over 40 years ago. They have worked hard to provide the best service possible and grow their Cliental. 

Fast forward to 2024, Clay’s is moving towards a full service store. A lot of people don’t realize what all we do as we are mostly word of mouth advertising. We are more than just flooring and furniture. Our product line has expanded to window treatments of all types. Full kitchen and bathroom remodels, Cabinets, countertops, wallpaper, wood wall coverings, lighting, and décor. We like the idea of keeping things simple for our customers and being a one stop shop for your project needs.

Pam is an excellent designer with a great eye for colors and styles. So much so that. Customers are taking us with them when they move. Recently we have done projects in Wyoming, Florida and soon we will be traveling to Colorado and Arizona.

What can customers expect when they visit your showroom in Rochester? 

Clay’s showroom is newly remodeled, if you haven’t seen it please stop and check it out. Since 2021 we have taken out the guitar bar to add more space to the showroom. We added ship lap to the block walls to enable us to be able to showcase more décor. The clays shopping experience offers a wide variety of products to look through and  some unique pieces that you won’t find elsewhere. Our upper deck features a large flooring selection consisting of tile, hardwood, LVP and carpet. We have vinyl and carpet remnants available as well.  The main level is full of furniture, countertop and cabinet samples, wallcoverings and more.

Tell us about some current trends in interior design: 

Clays likes to lean away from the current design trends and shift to a more custom, personalized level. After all Unique makes more of a statement. We prefer custom looks to go with what the customer likes rather than what everyone else likes. In general, we are seeing a huge shift in the grey trends and people are shifting more towards yellows, oranges, greens and blues. In a way we are seeing more of the retro look coming back. Curved lines with colorful chairs in some of the muted colors. Warm minimalistic styles are also becoming more popular again.

It's nice to see some colors coming back around. In the flooring world LVP is still the in thing with more warm tones being used.
